On General Balance Laws with Boundary

چکیده
This paper is devoted to general balance laws (with a possibly non local source term) with a non-characteristic boundary. Basic well posedness results are obtained, trying to provide sharp estimates. In particular, bounds tend to blow up as the boundary tends to be characteristic. New uniqueness results for the solutions to conservation and/or balance laws with boundary are also provided. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 35L50, 35L65.

Gauss-green Theorem for Weakly Differentiable Vector Fields, Sets of Finite Perimeter, and Balance Laws
We analyze a class of weakly differentiable vector fields F : R → R with the property that F ∈ L∞ and div F is a Radon measure. These fields are called bounded divergencemeasure fields. The primary focus of our investigation is to introduce a suitable notion of the normal trace of any divergence-measure field F over the boundary of an arbitrary set of finite perimeter, which ensures the validit...
متن کاملGlobal Stabilization of Attitude Dynamics: SDRE-based Control Laws
The State-Dependant Riccati Equation method has been frequently used to design suboptimal controllers applied to nonlinear dynamic systems. Different methods for local stability analysis of SDRE controlled systems of order greater than two such as the attitude dynamics of a general rigid body have been extended in literature; however, it is still difficult to show global stability properties of...
متن کاملMixed Systems: ODEs – Balance Laws
We prove the well posedness of mixed problems consisting of a system of ordinary differential equations coupled with systems of balance laws in domains with moving boundaries. The interfaces between the systems are provided by the boundary data and boundary positions. Various situations that fit into this framework are studied, both analytically and numerically. We consider a piston moving in a...
متن کاملA Note on Adjoint Error Estimation for One-Dimensional Stationary Balance Laws with Shocks
We consider one-dimensional steady-state balance laws with discontinuous solutions. Giles and Pierce [J. Fluid Mech., 426 (2001), pp. 327–345] realized that a shock leads to a new term in the adjoint error representation for target functionals. This term disappears if and only if the adjoint solution satisfies an internal boundary condition. Curiously, most computer codes implementing adjoint e...
متن کاملISS-Lyapunov functions for time-varying hyperbolic systems of balance laws
A family of time-varying hyperbolic systems of balance laws is considered. The partial differential equations of this family can be stabilized by selecting suitable boundary conditions. For the stabilized systems, the classical technique of construction of Lyapunov functions provides a function which is a weak Lyapunov function in some cases, but is not in others. We transform this function thr...
